Publications/Presentations In the British Council, Mr
Alcantara researched and wrote a report on Cultural Diplomacy in
France, Germany and the UK. This subsequently developed into a project for his MBA.
As a writer and journalist, Mr Alcantara has written numerous articles and essays which have been published in local community
papers and magazines, some of which he has edited. His article, entitled “Permission to Work: Filipino Migrant
Workers in the UK,” was published in the book In
De Olde Worlde, Views of Filipino Migrants in Europe
in 2007, which was co-funded by UNESCO.
A more personal article entitled, "Food
for the Overseas Pinoy", appeared in the book A Taste of Home: Pinoy Expats and Food Memories published
in 2008 by Anvil Publications.
He is the editor of EuroFilipino
Journal which was previously published in print but is now under development as an online journal. [Please

Television Journalism As a Correspondent for ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel, Mr Alcantara
has researched, covered and voiced-over over a hundred news reports on the migrant community mostly
in the UK, plus Spain, France and Norway.
Trade
Union work Gene Alcantara was an active member of the Public and Commercial Services Union for two decades.
He was a member of the Branch Executive Committee, and of the PCS Black and Ethnic Minorities Group by the time he left the
British Council in 2005 to become self-employed. He strongly believes in workers' rights, tempered with management
needs, and pay equality for equal work. He opposes privatisation of public services, but believes public services
must be world-class competitive and its performance must be beyond criticism.
